| 概要 | This presentation examines the effectiveness of recent theories on the commodification of urban space developed in western countries, particularly the "rent gap theory" and "revanchism" of gentrification outlined by Smith. It focuses on Tokyo at the macro level (23 wards) and the micro level (local communities in the eastern inner city). It also points out that each city has its own historical background, and that the process of urbanization is very diverse, depending on the context in which the city was established as well as where it is located. Acknowledging the diversity of such processes, while at the same time identifying the commodification that is common to different cities, is an essential perspective for understanding the dynamics of global capitalism. |
