| 概要 | This study examines the patterns and covariates of mortality in a local post town of Koriyama in northeastern Japan from 1729-1870. Using the local population registers called "ninbetsu-aratame-cho (NAC)," we analyze how individual survival was affected by famines and local economic conditions depending on their sex and different life stages. We also analyze the effects of family wealth as measured by household socioeconomic status on physical vulnerability of individual men and women through their risk of dying. |
